GOOD BOYS

When MONSTERS attack…how SWEET it is!

WHEN MONSTERS attack!

One of the greatest things about living in NYC is dropping into a favorite neighborhood and just taking a walk at night to see what you might find…

On the way to the movies (Good Boys) we decided to take a little end of summer walk through the streets of the Upper West Side in search of ice cream and good times. Google Maps was little help on our quest, so we decided to do it the old fashioned way - walk and discover.

Not so many blocks away we ran into famed NYC haunt, Magnolia Bakery (UWS) where we popped in to see what treats might be in store.

Though no ice cream was to be had at this beloved bakery, the onset of Halloween and the promise of a Children’s Birthday party awaited us…

It’s odd that some food coloring, powdered sugar, butter, and vanilla in a piping bag could produce such unabashed joy… yet there we were, face to face to face with three MONSTERS lying in wait!

Needless to say, this was NOT a cheat night and we did NOT consume an entire monster cake. BUT we did experience a feast for the eyes...the kind that we felt when we were kids and just looking in the window at all the amazing toys or treats or treasures which left us dreaming of fantastical things through and entire holiday season, just waiting to see what Santa might bring at the end of the year if we were really good boys and girls.

I miss that time, flipping through the Sears and JCPenny catalogues, circling all the toys and treasures I was wishing Santa might bring to our house on Christmas Eve, assuming I had been a GOOD BOY all year long…

So every now and then, when I get a glimpse of something truly magical in nature, I cannot help but feel like I’m five again, and everything yet to come is so filled with hope and joy and wonder.

Thanks, Magnolia. Good deeds don’t go unpublished… I love remembering to be FIVE!
